Dermal filler touch-up schedule
Typical ranges for every area, how long filler takes to settle, and when a top-up makes sense.
How long filler lasts, by area
| Area | Typical duration |
|---|---|
| Lips | 6 to 12 months |
| Smile lines (nasolabial folds) | 6 to 12 months |
| Under-eyes (tear trough) | 9 to 18 months |
| Cheeks | 12 to 18 months |
| Chin and jawline | 12 to 18 months |
Ranges are for hyaluronic acid fillers and differ between products. Areas that move a lot, like the lips, break filler down faster.
How long filler takes to settle
- First days: swelling and possibly bruising, usually strongest on day 2.
- 1 to 2 weeks: most swelling is gone.
- 2 to 4 weeks: the final result. Many injectors schedule a review appointment around this time.
When to plan a filler top-up
Many people book a smaller top-up when they notice volume fading, rather than waiting until it has gone completely. Keeping before and after photos from the same angle and light makes the change much easier to see than the mirror.
Write down the product, amount (in ml or syringes) and area each time. If you change clinics, your new injector will ask for exactly this.
Frequently asked questions
Which filler lasts the longest?
Thicker fillers used in the cheeks, chin and jawline usually last longer than the softer fillers used in the lips.
Can I get filler before an event?
Plan at least 2 to 4 weeks ahead so swelling and bruising are gone and there is time for a review. See when to book treatments before an event.
Track product, ml and area for every filler session, compare before and after photos, and get a reminder when it is time to review.
